Basketball League Development

Currently, I am working on a project as a Missions and Recreation Ministry intern at Crestwood Baptist Church. My main project is to develop a basketball league for the High School age. I am developing a manual for the Leadership team and the coaches of the league. This manual will include guide lines to implement this league from start to finish. The league model with Upward has been influential in the development of this league despite its focus solely on K-6 grade. The emphasis will combine the game of basketball with evangelism, character, and community. The coaches will lead a devotion at practice during the week and then have games on Saturday. You’ll never believe what I am calling the league? Ballers!!!!
I hope to expand this outreach in sports and recreation to the adult age as well. The challenge with young and older adults will be with how evangelism will be incorporated into the league. It will be difficult to have this age group show up for a practice during the week. Some say don’t be intentional with evangelism at all with the league and invite people back to church or a small group. This is the challenge that I am wrestling with right now! Any thoughts?
