Today my wife and I went to visit The 930 Art Center that is sponsored by Sojourn Community Church in Louisville, KY. Sojourn reminds me of Sandals Church in Riverside, CA in it’s style, innovation, and the diversity of people it is trying to reach.
The 930 is described as a place where creativity can happen. Their hope is to see arts thrive in the city, and the doors are open to artists and musicians who share that vision. Their desire is to create a vibrant space where music, visual art, and community take place, all under one roof.
Sojourn and The 930 are at the same location in a newly bought three story school building that has been vacant for years. The facility has an Art Gallery where they have local artists and a number of national artists showing each year. The 930 also hosts Art and Business Studios that they lease out. The Art Making Space is available for public access that with a membership fee you’ll be able to use supplies including painting, drawing, digital photography, video editing, printmaking, darkroom photography, ceramics, etc. Also a hub is available for teaching classes and workshops. The Listening Room is space for local and national touring bands to play. They have a 450 seated room and a 250 standing room for shows. Lastly, they have an annual Art & Film Festival that is designed to cultivate beauty.
Amazing venue for those within the church to display their gifts and also a tool to connect with the community!
