We Survived Youth Camp

Just returned from youth camp this weekend and we survived, barely. We attended an all Hispanic Youth Camp in Florida and I guess our youth enjoyed themselves because they want to go back next year. I told my wife that if our church returned we would need back-up. The picture above gives you a hint.

I was the only counselor for all of these little angels. At night they went crazy using toilet paper, duck tape, shaving cream, shampoo, finger nail polish, chocolate laxatives, and even pickles for pranks. I didn’t get much sleep the first couple of night’s because they were trying to sneak out.

One night, all of the guy cabins were out having the biggest pillow fight I have witnessed. The grand-finale on the last night was a camp-wide attack that involved more shaving cream, water balloons, buckets of water, pillows, golf cart joy riding, and attacking the middle school campus.

Don’t misunderstand and think that this camp was all play with no spiritual aspects, because the schedule was full and it really was a solid week for the youth. But at night it was a prank-infested war zone. There is a history and tradition of pranks at this camp, that is passed down from older generations. It was almost like it was expected by the campers and the administration!

It was a fun trip for our youth and I’m glad we got to go. Thankfully, our bus survived as well (15 hour trip down, 17 hour trip back).

Yes, our week was pretty crazy!
At least now I would know what to expect next year. I need a vacation to recover from my “vacation”.

Glad you guys had a safe trip home. Now you can get some good rest. I can just picture you Chris at night when you thought you were going to sleep and the little boys kept trying to escape. Im sure you used some of your words like “what the heck” “go to bed or Im gonna kill you” and most of all “FRICK”. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall during your night time adventures. :)

I guess you could say that these boys are “pequenos palo de golf” (little brats)

welcome home! Glad all went well. Have you both considered coming down to SC while your mom and sister are here? You are welcome:) You are welcome anytime it does NOT have to be just then. Door is always open (well ya have to knock, I keep it locked) hehe

I must say that I haid FRICK a couple of times my self, especially at 7 in the morning when trying to wake up 9 girls that had just gone to bed 2 hours before.
By the last night I gave up and let them go outside for the shaving cream fight, however, I was a good counselor and stood by the door until about 4 am to keep a lookout for them so they wouldn’t get beat down by the crazy boys with the pillows!
