Lakers-Celtics Rivalry Revisted

Showtime meets Bird’s Celtics.
Bird draining 3 pointers on everyone.
Magic running the fast break like no other. Kevin McHale close-lines when Kurt Rambis goes up for a lay-up. The sky hook. Coop-a-loops!
Chick Hearn on the mic, saying: “This game is over, the refrigerator is closed, the lights are out, the eggs are cooling, the butter’s getting hard, and the jello is jiggling.”
The 80’s era is when I first started loving the game of basketball. I still remember the T-Shirt I had when Magic won the MVP in 1987. I wore that shirt well into the 90’s. Some girl at camp bumped into me with a paint brush and got green paint on my sleeve (not cool!). But I still rocked it and eventually cut the sleeves off so I could wear it a few more years.
Like all Laker fans, I despised the Boston Celtics. They were the team to beat, the most championships in NBA history. However, I did respect and admired the game of Larry Bird (not too many light skinned ballers in the league to look up to). I would have loved to watch Jerry West in action, despite the many heart ache losses in the Finals against the Celtics (almost all of the 1960’s to name a few).
Here is an interesting link from the blog of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and his insights on the Lakers-Celtics rivalry.

The next match up (2008 NBA Finals) between the Lakers and the Celtics is no rivalry, yet. We are in a new era with new players that are trying to make their mark in the sports history books. Boston hasn’t been to the Finals since 1987, which is also the last time they played the Lakers.
So, it should be a fun series (beats San Antonio vs Detroit) and a time for sports fans, the media, and the players to reminisce on the past, but also attempting to make their own history now.
Predictions? The Celtics won both games in the regular season against the Lakers (without Pao Gasol, and Kobe having a 15-46 FG shooting total for both games). Boston is good, but they need to win on the road. They do have home court but the Lakers have three games at home and are undefeated in the playoffs at the Staples Center. If the rest of the Lakers team contribute and Mr. MVP does his thing, I like the Lakers in 6.
We shall see. Will you be watching? Thank goodness for the Finals on local T.V.

I am trying to get excited. I need to mention that I hate the lakers in a huge way.
but yeah, it’s pretty cool to see this match up.
I grew up in chicago in the eighties…so, i really can’t stand either team.
Yea, it will be nice to watch the games on my rabbit ears!
The Jello is already Jiggling!!!
I will have to settle for the internet during this series. They don’t watch Basketball games in India! GO LAKER’S!
