Greatest Sports Moments Contest
by Chris Harvey on 08/12/08
Over at the blog, The Blazing Center, there is a contest going on to celebrate the release of a new book called, Game Day for the Glory of God. To enter the contest you must submit your favorite sports moment in history.
Here is the deal (as posted on The Blazing Center):
* You, the avid blog reader and passionate sports fan select your favorite sports moment of all time and find a clip of that moment on YouTube.
* You then email me the URL of the YouTube clip. Please place the words “Greatest Sports Moment” in the subject line. Entries must be received by Friday, August 22nd, and only one entry per person please.
* I will then sift through the many magical moments that I receive and select what I believe are the ten greatest sports moments of all time. These clips will be gathered together into one glorious sports extravaganza and posted to this blog on Monday, August 25th.
* If I select your video you will receive a free copy of my book when it’s released on September 30th.
It was difficult to pick only one of the greatest sports moments in history. But here is one of my favorites:
Magic Johnson as a rookie led the Lakers, without Kareem who was injured after game 5, over Dr. J’s Sixers for the NBA Championship. His numbers were 42 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and became the first and only rookie to win the NBA Finals MVP award.
What sports moment would you pick?

John Wooden
Peter R. Casey

The greatest Dunk ever was the following . . . .

That dunk was awesome. There might be one greater but I’ll wait and post it later.

The reason I like that dunk is that John Starks was only I think 6′2″ and he did it with his left hand and we saw that game and you had the poster hanging in the garage.

Kirk Gibson’s homerun in the bottom of the ninth in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series has got to be it. The man was so hobbled with injuries to his legs that he could barely walk let alone run or swing a bat. That at bat was, in fact, his only at bat of the World Series.

Yes I agree. I was making a list and Gibson’s home run was on that list for sure. I remember watching that game. Unbelievable.

Isn’t starks left handed? bj was giving him the right.
I have always thought Randy Brown had one of the best dunks ever – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsIBvmP4Ra8 – but then again i hate the lakers and love the bulls
my favorite sports moment right now, ‘the look’ from Lance Armstrong – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7THIhZEP4QM
the hardest stage and the hardest climb.

@Vince not a bad dunk
. But Lance’s look was pretty tough. He has to be up there with the greatest sports moments.
