Day Before Half Marathon

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, then you know that I let the cat out of the bag all ready.
I ran a half-marathon (13.1 miles) this morning. The thing is, the race is tomorrow!
Let me explain. I ended up having a schedule conflict between the race that my wife and I have been training for and this event at church.
I was going to try and do both, and even waited until a few days out to decide, but it wasn’t going to happen.
So I decided to run the thing by myself, the day before the actually race. No crowds. No one cheering. No water stations. No one guiding you through the course (I almost got off course a couple of times). No T-shirt for participating. No congratulations when you cross the finish line.
It was just me and the road, starting at the Water Tower and running all along the river front to downtown and back. Check out the course map here.
I was wondering what my body was going to do at the 6 mile point, but everything went fine, and once I made the turn downtown (8 mile point), I had a burst of energy that carried me all the way home (despite the cold weather, wind in the face, runny nose, eyes watering).
I ran the “race” in 1 hour and 40 minutes. It was fun, even though I would have loved to run with my wife and to experience the energy of the crowd. But I’m just weird like that.
However, I still ran my 13.1 miles like everybody will tomorrow, but it was just a day early.
