Sneaker Updates and My Dream Store

As I noted here, the sneakers that I picked for participating in the essay contest were no longer available.
So I had to go with option two:

The Nike Blazer Mid Premium is an update on Nike’s first basketball shoe, introduced in 1972 and worn by NBA basketball greats such as George “Ice Man” Gervin of the San Antonio Spurs. The Blazer Hi was built for ankle support and its rubber out sole provided maximum traction. Cut flex grooves deliver added flexibility.

I was looking forward to the first pair that I picked, but I am used to not finding my shoe size (14-15’s).

It still makes no sense to me why retail stores don’t carry more larger sizes. Most stores I talk to maybe carry 13’s and rarely carry 14, 15’s or larger. But they sell the larger sizes out like it was nothing when they carry them.

Is there not a demand for more orders in the larger sizes? Is it a cost efficient issue to not order more larger sizes? Is it a stocking issue? Is it a production issue?

If I ever (and it’s a big if) have my own shoe store, it would be great to not carry to many small sizes. Can you imagine the reaction from people when they come in and ask for their size and I tell them we don’t carry anything under a size 10.

Hey, there are plenty of stores that have smaller sizes, but a store of only larger shoe sizes would be great. Can I get a AMEN from the larger kicks section?

I know the percentages for people with smaller shoe sizes are greater, and that it makes sense for businesses to order more smaller sizes, but it’s fun to dream of change.

Role count on your shoe size?

Update: They didn’t have this shoe in my size either and decided to just ship me what they had left in a size 15. ;(
