Reminiscing // High School Basketball

by on 03/26/09

I have been thinking a lot about high school basketball lately, while working on launching our Sports Organizations first league this summer.

Above is a photo I pulled out of the closet. This was my sophomore year on the varsity team.

I was sporting the number 21 honorably. Lots of memories.

Dude in the center, Russ, was 6’9” and playing soccer until we recruited him to come play with us.

Mikey, the player in the front row, right in front of me, died in a car accident the next year.

Mike Allen, back row and number 44, has been a good friend, golfing buddy, and now one of my Board of Directors.

Good times.

Anybody play high school basketball? Good or bad memories?

I certainly do remember my days in HS and College. Such fun to play the game with other great players. We had a center who was 6’8″ but only after he grew 10 inches the Summer before. He later went on to play ball with Spencer Haywood at U of Detroit. He then played a short time in the ABA. My college Coach was Don Johnson who was an All-American at UCLA. I was privileged to play with Swen Nader. Great memories.
    Thanks for this piece, Son

I have lots of fond memories of your highschool days, never a day that i can’t say that you were a son, to be proud of.
